What is bitumen?
Bitumen is a black and paste-like material used in moisture insulation and asphalt making. Bitumen has many different types, each of which has a specific application. Bitumen is a derivative of oil. It is often produced in an oil refinery.
Bitumen is a hydrocarbon-black to dark brown material that is completely soluble in carbon sulfide and carbon tetrachloride. The bitumen is solid at ambient temperature. But as the temperature rises, it becomes doughy and then liquefied.
